Story of the Shamrock

St Patrick in the fifth century used the shamrock to explain the Holy Trinity to the Celts . Holding up the shamrock he was able to describe how three entities could also be one. Since then the shamrock has been considered the unofficial national flower of Ireland.  Occasionally, a shamrock is found with four leaves, a four leaf clover.
