The Ardagh Chalice has been a huge inspiration for our Celtic jewelry designers, particularly our Warrior Collection of Celtic wedding bands. The 8th century Ardagh Chalice was found in 1868 in Ardagh, Co. Limerick and is one of the most important works of Celtic Insular art ever found in Ireland. It is housed in the National Museum of Ireland in Dublin. Beautifully made, it is a two-handled ornate chalice with over two hundred and fifty main components. Completed in a combination of materials including silver and copper, it is decorated with gold filigree, colored enamels, a large rock-crystal, amber, malachite and openwork metal objects. The gold filigree band on the Ardagh Chalice, featuring shield decorations, forms the basis of the intricate designs featured on each piece of our Celtic Warrior Collection. The medallions, one on each side, are centered on the bowl and are cast bronze frames in the form of a cross of arcs within a circle, simple coiled serpents in beaded wire on gold foil and enamels. It is from these medallions that the internationally known Celtic Warrior Shield symbol has taken its inspiration. Reflecting the four seasons, the movement of the sun, Christianity, protection, love and honor it is only fitting that the original Celtic Warrior Shield design has become the favorite Celtic wedding ring with couples for many years. The Celtic warrior Shield has caught the imagination of the Irish people and the outside world as a romantic and true symbol of Celtic design perfection. Our Celtic jewelry embodies the spirit of the Ardagh Chalice and Warrior Shield and are the perfect addition to any Celtic wedding jewelry.
